Dutch giants Ajax have confirmed their next manager, barely 24 hours after winning the Eredivisie title.
The Amsterdam club announced on Thursday that Alfred Schreuder would be replacing Erik Ten Hag, who is headed to Manchester United.
Manchester United recently confirmed that Ten Hag would be the new man at the Old Trafford dugout, taking over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Schreuder, also a Dutchman, takes over at the club barely four months after taking charge of Belgian outfit Club Brugge.
He is no stranger to Ajax football club has he previously worked with Ten Hag as his assistant.
Together, the two masterminded Ajax’s incredible 2018/2019 season in which the club reached the Champions League semis, only to be eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur.
He has also had coaching experience in the past with other Dutch sides including Vitesse, Twente, and Hoffenheim.
As reported by The Sun, Schreuder is set to pen a two year deal at the Dutch club, with an option to extend.
Speaking on his new job, the 49-year old said:
"Becoming head coach at Ajax is an honour and a great opportunity, that I will grab with both hands.
"I’m also excited to return here, because I enjoyed the one-and-a-half years I’ve worked at Ajax very much.
Interestingly, Schreuder still has unfinished business in Belgium before he can begin his reign with Ajax.
Club Brugge are three points clear of their nearest rivals Union SG in the Belgian championship play offs with a mere two games of the season to go.
