  • Manchester United cannot finish the season lower than seventh place following the results on Wednesday, May 11.
  • Manchester City thrashed Wolves to keep Bruno Lage's side rooted in eighth place with 50 points
  • Despite the guarantee of European football, United run the risk of playing in the Europa Conference League

Manchester United are guaranteed to be playing in Europe next season with a couple of matches to go following a string of results on Wednesday, May 11.

The Red Devils secured their European ticket without kicking a ball as Wolves defeat to Manchester City means the Old Trafford club cannot finish lower than seventh this campaign.

This will come as a slight boost for incoming boss Erik Ten Hag, who recently secured a third Eredivisie title with Ajax.

Wolves capitulate against runaway leaders

On Wednesday, Wolverhampton were completely outclassed by Manchester City, who are keen on wrapping up a second successive Premier League title.

Kevin de Bruyne exhibited his class once again with four goals, with Raheem Sterling getting the other one as Pep Guardiola’s side ran out comfortable 5-1 winners.

At some point in the first half, Bruno Lage’s side threatened to make a contest out of the encounter after finding the equaliser through Leander Dendoncker.

But the Citizens proved too strong on the night as De Bruyne put up a masterclass to completely annihilate opposition at the Molineaux.

Defeat to Manchester City leaves Wolves in eighth place with 50 points, eight points behind Manchester United who have one game of the season to go.

West Ham is sandwiched between Man United and Wolves in seventh, and David Moyes’ side has 55 points.

For the Hammers, fate is in their own hands as they have two games to go and if they win both games, they will certainly finish sixth and relegate United to the Europa Conference League.

Their final two fixtures are not easy as they welcome Manchester City on Sunday, May 15, before their final game against Brighton and Hove Albion away.

Lampard’s message to Chelsea after huge Everton favour

In other news, Sports Brief reported how Frank Lampard was thankful to his former student Mason Mount, as England forward starred in Chelsea’s win over Leeds United.

The win against Leeds put the Peacocks in the relegation zone and was a major boost to Chelsea’s survival hopes.

Everton somehow managed a crucial 1-0 win over Chelsea a few days earlier.
