With just a few matches left to end the season, Rangnick's charges have lost two crucial matches on the bounce, with their most recent outing ending in a 3-1 humiliating loss against Arsenal at the Emirates.

The loss left United occupying sixth place in the standings with 54 points, a massive six off fourth-placed Arsenal.

Rangnick admits he wants Man United to miss out on European spot

Speaking ahead of Man United's meeting with Chelsea at Old Trafford, Rangnick conceded an eighth-place finish would be ideal for his side.

According to the German tactician, missing out on a European football spot would help incoming permanent manager, Erik ten Hag, rebuild the club.

However, he was quick to clarify that his side will be desperate to record favourable results in the remaining matches of the 2021/22 season.

“Even if we win all four games it's not in our hands, what is in our hands is how we play, our level of performance. It's important for this season to finish on the best possible note," SunSport quoted Rangnick saying.
“With a new manager and new approach, this is still a massively interesting club and I look forward to helping Erik and everyone at the club to change the whole approach next season so Manchester United can be a top club," the United interim boss added.

Rangnick identifies five Man United players who should be sold

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Man United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has reportedly identified five players who the club should offload in the summer.

A number of United stars are expected to be shown the door this summer after an underwhelming season, with Rangnick believed to have been charged with the responsibility of pinpointing players who need to be shipped out

The defensive trio of Phil Jones, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Eric Bailly top the list of players earmarked for offloading.
