This comes after a massive spending spree by the Premier League's traditional 'big six' during the recent transfer windows.

According to The Sun, the 'big six' boast a combined value of an eyewatering £4.1 billion after the English clubs spent big during the summer.

The publication claims that EPL clubs shattered the net spending barrier of £1bn for the first time during the recent transfer window.

It is understood that the clubs splashed a whopping £1.92bn to sign new players, translating to 34 percent more than the previous record of £1.4bn, set in 2017.

Which clubs have the most expensive squads in the world?

According to data collected by the CIES Football Observatory, Manchester City boast the most expensive squad in the world.

The English champions have an array of talent within their ranks, with Erling Haaland the most notable inclusion this summer.

City's squad is valued at a staggering £917m, £54m more than Man United's squad valuation of £863m.

Chelsea have the third-most expensive team in the world, with Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool completing the top five podium.

Man United slammed for paying £60m for Antony

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Liverpool icon Dietmar Hamann has slammed Manchester United for paying top dollar for the services of unproved Antony talent.

Antony could make his much-anticipated debut for the Red Devils this Sunday when United host league leaders Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Man United have now spent more than £210m this summer, with Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro also joining Erik ten Hag's new-look squad.
