Legendary Former Mamelodi Sundowns Captain Might Get Testimonial Match Says Club Chairman Thlopie Motsepe

Former Mamelodi Sundowns player Hlompho Kekana's remarkable contributions to the club might be recognised before long.

The 36-year-old Kekana had a glorious 10 year stay at the club, hoovering silverware like it was going out of fashion at Chloorkop. He is currently without a club, with several teams reported to be sniffing around for his signature.

According to TimesLIVE, club chairmen Thlopie Motsepe revealed that Kekana could be honoured with a testimonial match. As explained on Goal.com, a testimonial match is a game that is played in order to honour a player who has given a significant term of service to a particular club, usually but not limited to a 10 year period.

Motsepe said:

“We have said when the opportunity comes, we want to honour Hlompo with our supporters. A testimonial is something we can explore, obviously Covid-19 permitting, but it is definitely something we are looking to do, and we are hoping it is possible with the government regulations."
“For now there are other things that can be done in a no stadium type of environment. We will always be looking for the opportunity. The YouTube testimonial we did was to make sure he is respected by the club.”

Legend Hlompho Kekana remains a man in demand in the DStv Premiership

Legendary midfielder Hlompho Kekana appears to be on the wishlist of several clubs with lofty ambitions.

According to Sports Brief, The 36-year-old former Bafana Bafana star departed from Mamelodi Sundowns last November after 10 glorious and trophy-ladden years at the club.

It was thought he was retiring, but it turned out he was a free agent instead.
