Jurgen Klopp beat main rival Pep Guardiola to win the LMA Manager of the Season award following fierce title challenge in the 2021/22 campaign.

The Liverpool manager gave Pep Guardiola's Manchester City a close English Premier League battle, with the league decided on the final day after the Reds raked 92 points.

Receiving the coveted Sir Alex Ferguson trophy at the end of season awards night, Klopp spoke about the title challenge with City.

"It is a great honour and it was an insane season. The last matchday when only two games were meaningless and, in the rest, we all played for absolutely everything," he said as quoted by Sky Sports.

"It was a bit nervy, it wasn't the best outcome for us, but we are already over it. And when you win a prize like this you are either a genius, or you have the best coaching staff in the world - I am here with four of my coaching staff, and they know how much I appreciate them," he added.

The award is voted by the full members of coaches across all the divisions of English football.

Jurgen Klopp after finishing second in the league, won the domestic double of Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, beating Chelsea on penalties in both finals.

The German will lead Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid on Saturday.
