  • Portugal forward Diogo Jota netted the only goal as Liverpool earned a hard-fought victory against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup quarter-final
  • The Reds progressed to the last four and will face Manchester City in a mouthwatering semi-final next month
  • The dream of a quadruple is still alive for Liverpool who also advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League

Diogo Jota's 78th minute strike proved decisive as Liverpool defeated a stubborn Nottingham Forest to advance to the last four of the English FA Cup.

The Portuguese sneaked past Colback to pounce on a Konstantinos Tsimikas delivery for the game's only goal.

It is the first FA Cup semi final appearance for Jurgen Klopp since joining the Reds from Borussia Dortmund.

The Reds are hoping to win the quadruple this season, having already won the Carabao Cup and are in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool are also just a point behind Manchester City in the English Premier League.

How Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest gave a good account of themselves and should have taken the lead moments before Jota's breakthrough.

Philip Zinckernagel had a golden opportunity to secure the winner for the English championship side, but he flapped the chance.

Liverpool were second fiddle for most part of the game, but Roberto Firminio came close for the Reds only to see his lob saved by the Forest goalie.

This is the fits time in seven years since Liverpool reach the semi finals of the FA Cup. They face Manchester City in the last four.

Manchester City to face Liverpool in FA Cup semi final

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that three out of the four teams that will contest this season’s FA Cup have been decided and the draw has been done for the semi-finals.

In the first semi-final, Manchester City will take on either Liverpool or Nottingham Forest. The two sides are currently playing against each other in the final quarter-final fixture.

In the second semi-final, Chelsea will take on Crystal Palace in an all-London affair. The two sides have played each other twice already this season, with The Blues winning both fixtures.
