  • On Tuesday, October 11, The Old Lady succumbed to a shock 2-0 defeat against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League
  • The result left fans questioning Massimiliano Allegri’s position, but the Juve president insists he will not be sacked

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli remains defiant that Massimiliano Allegri will not be sacked in the near future despite what is turning out to be a nightmare season for the Bianconeri.

The Italian giants hit a new low on Tuesday after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League - a result that leaves them bottom of the group and practically out of the competition.

Calls to have Allegri sacked are now too loud for the fans, but President Agnelli was keen to set the record straight immediately after the match.

“This is a difficult night in a difficult period. It is one of the most difficult periods and the moment to take responsibility, which is why I am here,”
“I feel ashamed for what is happening, I am angry, but I also know that football is played with 11 men, you lose and win with 11.”

Agnelli added that Allegri should not bear all responsibility for the dip in form as situations like this “is not about one person”.

“Allegri is the coach of Juventus and he will remain as the coach of Juventus.” He went on.

The President was also asked whether the unwillingness to sack Allegri was because of the heavy contract he signed and the financial implications it might have on the club, something he vehemently denied.

Juventus are currently eighth in the Serie A, 10 points behind leaders Napoli.

Allegri will have to dust his side up quickly as they have another crunch match, the Turin derby, on Saturday, October 15.
