A Kenya Premier League clash pitting giants Gor Mahia and Vihiga Bullets on Sunday, February 13, had to be abandoned after chaos erupted at Kasarani Stadium.

K'Ogalo were leading 1-0 through George "Blackberry" Odhiambo when chaos broke out at the stroke of the first half.

Genesis of the mayhem at Kasarani

Sports Brief understands hell broke loose after a fan allegedly jumped over the gates without paying the entry charges.

The incident is said to have sparked a brawl between supporters and Gor Mahia security stewards bringing the entertaining match to an abrupt halt.

According to reports, the centre referee was left with no choice but to call off the match after efforts to get players back on the pitch proved futile.

Vihiga Bullets decline to resume play

Vihiga Bullets are said to have declined to resume play for the second half citing security reasons.

“We had to protect our players. If Gor fans can fight amongst themselves, it shows even worse might happen to us,” Vihiga Bullets head coach Abdalla Juma was quoted saying after the match.

Vihiga Bullets playing unit who had taken cover in their bus were later whisked to safety with the help of the police.

Both clubs are yet to release an official statement after the incident, with Gor Mahia only tweeting about the abandonment of the match.

"The game has been called off / abandoned due to insecurity following chaos that erupted at half break," the KPL giants tweeted.

It now remains to be seen if the clash will be replayed at a neutral venue.
