Jurgen Klopp's charges were looking to build on their 2-0 win over Leicester when they took on the Clarets as they push to keep pace with league leaders, Man City.

How Liverpool stunned Burnley

Despite being boosted with the return of Sadio Mane Mohamed Salah, Liverpool lacked their usual mojo upfront as they laboured through the early exchanges.

Surprisingly, it was Burnley who created glorious chances but spurned all of them as they were made to pay for their misses.

Wout Weghorst and James Rodriguez were particularly culpable for the missed chances as they exposed Liverpool's high line.

Liverpool's best chance came through Mohamed Salah when he was denied a penalty for what looked like a trip by Weghorst.

Fabinho, who has been in fine shape since the turn of the year went on to fire the visitors into the lead with five minutes left before the break.

Neither side could score or the remainder of the clash as the Reds held firm to their lead to claim maximum points.

What the result means to both Burnley and Liverpool

Meanwhile, the result saw Liverpool move back within nine points of Premier League leaders Man City with a game in hand.

Burnley, on the other hand, remain bottom of the log and seven points away from safety after Newcastle beat Aston Villa.
