Why Ghana Football Association Delay in Unveiling Chris Hughton as Black Stars Coach Revealed

The Ghana Football Association has appointed former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton as new coach of the Black Stars.

However, the federation is yet to present the ex-English Premier League manager to Ghanaians after three weeks of giving him the job.

According to spokesperson of the GFA, Henry Asante Twum, the delay has been caused by the passing of Hughton's father.

“Chris had to stay in the UK because he lost his dad and needed time with his family and plan the burial service. That’s why he’s not been to Ghana yet,” Asante Twum told 3Sports, as quoted by Pulse.

“We expect Chris in Ghana next week if everything goes according to plan. We are constantly engaging on his unveiling, media engagement, and build-up to the games.”

The Black Stars will face Angola in a double-header later this month as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers resumes.

The four-time Africa champions will be hoping to qualify for the tournament in Ivory Coast and possibly end the 42-year wait for the AFCON trophy.

Chris Hughton named Ghana coach

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Chris Hughton has been appointed the new head coach of the Ghana national team.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United manager will be assisted by ex-Aston Villa midfielder, George Boateng and former Ghana international, Mas Ud Didi Dramani.

All three technical men worked with Otto Addo during the World Cup in Qatar, with Hughton serving as technical advisor.

Dan Quaye warns against interference

Former Ghana defender, Dan Quaye has backed the appointment of Chris Hughton as the new coach of the Black Stars.

However, the Hearts of Oak legend is worried over the likely interference in the work of the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager.

Hughton was confirmed as Ghana's national coach on Sunday, having played the role of a technical advisor since March last year.
