Christian Atsu's wife, Marie-Claire Rupio has broken her silence following the tragic death of the Ghanaian footballer.

Atsu was confirmed dead after his lifeless body was removed from the rubble following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey on February 6, 2023.

His passing has left the Ghanaian football fraternity in a state of mourning, with former players and friends paying tribute to the winger.

Marie-Claire, who has three children with the player, admits missing Atsu and feels terribly sad over his passing.

“Hey everyone, a lot of you are asking if I am okay now; I am not but I am trying. I am trying to be strong,” she said, as quoted GhanaWeb.
“I have three kids, they need me. I don’t want to talk, I don’t want to eat, I don’t want to sleep, don’t want to do anything. I just want to be there with him.
“But life goes on even though it hurts. It hurts right here so much but I am trying and I will be strong for my kids. I miss him, I miss him so much,” she said.

Atsu's body has arrived in Ghana ahead of his final burial rites.

Atsu's wife makes public appearance

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Christian Atsu's wife broke down in tears as Newcastle United and Liverpool observed a minute silence for the player who died following the earthquake in Turkey.

Atsu sadly passed away after being trapped under rubble for 12 days following a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the city of Hatay, Turkey.

The lifeless body of the Hatayspor winger was found on Saturday, February 18, 2023 and has immediately been transported to his home country, Ghana.

Atsu's body arrives in Ghana

The remains of Christian Atsu have finally arrived in Ghana from Turkey following his passing due to a devastating earthquake on February 6.

The government, family, friends and former footballers were all at the Kotoko International Airport to receive the body ahead of the final burial rites.

In emotional scenes at the airport, many struggled to hold back tears while others wailed openly as the body was painfully brought out of a Turkish Airlines plane.
