Gideon Mensah is returning to the French Ligue 1 after sealing a permanent move to AJ Auxerre in the summer transfer window.

The Ghana international signed a three-year deal to join Auxerre from Austrian giants Red Bull Stalzburg.

Auxerre confirmed the arrival of the left-back, expressing delight in securing the signature of the defender.

"Gideon Mensah commits to AJA! The club is indeed happy to announce the three-year signing of the Ghanaian left-back, who arrives from Red Bull Salzburg. International on 11 occasions, he was notably part of the selection of the Black Stars during the 2021 African Cup of Nations," wrote the club on their official website.

Mensah spent last season on loan at Girondins Bordeaux, where he made 23 appearances in Ligue 1, making his familiar with the French topflight league.

The move ends his four year stay at Salzburg, where he spent most of his time on loan.

The 24-year-old played pivotal role as the Black Stars of Ghana qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Mensah played in the games against Nigeria, starring in Kumasi before switching to the left side of a three-man defence in Abuja.

He is expected to make the team for the 2022 World Cup in November.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Gideon Mensah has been building a strong relationship with fans of French Ligue 1 side Girondins Bordeaux after spending time with the supporters after training.

The Ghana left-back signed autographs and took photos with some of the fans as he continues to form a strong bond with the club.

In photos posted on Twitter, the Black Stars player is seen sharing the moment with fans at the Nouveau Stade De Bordeaux.
