African football great El Hadji Diouf wants Asamoah Gyan included in the Black Stars in order to brighten the chances of Ghana winning trophies.

Diouf, currently the Team Manager of reigning African champions Senegal, believes the ex-Black Stars captain can contribute to the growth of the national team with his wealth of invaluable experience.

Asamoah Gyan, who is on the cusp of launching his autobiography, is unattached since the expiration of his deal with Legon Cities and has not played for Ghana since the 2019 AFCON.

But El Hadji Diouf is of the opinion that the presence of Asamoah Gyan around the Black Stars could spur the four-time African champions to win trophies.

“To the President of the GFA, they need people like Asamoah Gyan around these boys to win tomorrow trophies by trophies like what Senegal did. We have Aliou Cisse, El Hadji Diouf Lamine Diatta Tony Sylva.” Diouf said as quoted by Football Ghana.

The ex-Liverpool star intimated if Asamoah Gyan moves to Senegal he will be drafted to the national team.

“If he comes to Senegal, tomorrow, he is going to work with us definitely because of what he has done.”

Diouf recalled how his advocacy for the inclusion of ex-internationals ultimately led to Senegal's maiden AFCON success.

“I remember I used to fight for Aliou Cisse to become the coach, Lamine Diatta was there already and after I came, I was working as the team manager, now, we have Tony Sylva, our 2002 ex-goalkeeper to be like the goalkeeper’s coach. Today, we have the best goalkeeper in the world because Tony Sylva is there.”

He cited Rigobert Song as the best example for other African nations to learn from.

“Cameroon has got the best example, they’ve got Rigobert Song and people to turn the national team around.” Diouf ended.

Asamoah Gyan eyes Black Stars coaching job

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana's leading all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan has not retired yet but aims to play an important role on the Black Stars technical bench.

The 36-year-old has expressed his interest in serving on the Black Stars technical team as strikers' coach.

He made this assertion in an interview with Accra-based television network Citi TV, underlining his readiness by revealing he has drawn plans of acquiring his coaching badges in the coming months.
