Ghana's leading all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan has not retired yet but aims to play an important role on the Black Stars technical bench.

The 36-year-old has expressed his interest in serving on the Black Stars technical team as strikers' coach.

He made this assertion in an interview with Accra-based television network Citi TV, underlining his readiness by revealing he has drawn plans of acquiring his coaching badges in the coming months.

"It’s something I’ve given a lot of thought to. I’ve received a lot of calls suggesting I venture into coaching.

“I’d like to handle the Black Stars as a strikers coach, but everything takes time.

“First, I need to work on my coaching course, and I’m due to begin in June or July, after that we’ll see,” he added.

The former Sunderland marksman last played for the Black Stars in 2019 and has stated categorically he is not done with football yet despite being unattached since the expiration of his deal with Legon Cities last year.

Following the absence of the 2010 BBC African Footballer of the year from the national team, the Black Stars have struggled to score goals, with various strikers auditioning as Gyan's successor with little success.

Gyan had earlier stated he would want to walk in the footsteps of legendary Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o, who is the president of the Cameroon Football Federation by becoming the Ghana Football Association boss.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that legendary Ghana forward Asamoah Gyan has hinted that he might be vying for the position of the Ghana Football Association presidency in the future.

According to the former Sunderland attacker, he will likely follow in the footsteps of Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba even though he has not thought about taking the initiative yet.

In an interview with Asaase Radio, via Citi Sports, Gyan disclosed that a number of people had approached him with the idea as well.
