British actor, producer and musician Idris Elba has declared his support for Ghana's Black Stars at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.

The English-born Hollywood star, who has lineage to the West African country was in Doha last week to host the World Cup draw.

In a video posted on social media, The Harder They Fall star disclosed he will be rooting for the Black Stars.

"I'm half Ghanaian so I'm rooting for Ghana," he responded to a question about the African continent in Qatar.

The Black Stars have been handed a tough draw, as they meet two old foes, Uruguay and Portugal, the two teams to knock Ghana out of the tournament in 2010 and 2014 with South Korea completing Group H.

Idris Elba will also be supporting the country of his birth, England, who have been drawn in Group B alongside USA, Iran and the winner of the Euro play-offs 1.

Ghana to renew rivalry in Group H against Portugal and Uruguay

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that four times African champions, Ghana have been drawn alongside European heavyweights Portugal, former World Champions Uruguay and South Korea.

The Black Stars will open their campaign at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a blockbuster clash against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal.

Ghana are appearing at the World Cup for the fourth time after missing the 2018 edition in Russia.

Herve Renard confident Senegal can go far at Qatar 2022

Herve Renard, a two-time Africa Cup of Nations winning coach, has tipped current champions Senegal to excel at the World Cup in Qatar.

The Saudi Arabia coach was in Doha to witness the draw for the global showpiece as he monitors which countries his side will face.

After the draw, the Frenchman shared his thoughts on the African countries that qualified for the World and his favourite to do well.
