Former Ghana Defender Believes the Black Stars Can Win the World Cup

John Painstil, a member of the 2010 Black Stars team that reached the quarter finals of the World Cup in South Africa, is confident the current team can make Ghana proud at the global showpiece.

The Black Stars qualified for another World Cup after urging the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a two-legged play-off. Ghana sealed qualification on the away goal rule.

Ex-Ghana right-back John Painstil, who was working as an analyst on Super Sport for the game on Tuesday, expressed delight in the Black Stars' qualification saying the team when kept together can win the World Cup.

"Ghana can win the World Cup," he said on Super Sport. "If this team is kept for long, they can win the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup."

The former Leicester City and Fulham player was not specific with which tournament but he firm in his statement.

John Painstil represented Ghana at two World Cups, and was part of the team that lost painfully to Uruguay in the quarter final in 2010.

Ghana will find out their World Cup opponents in the draw to be held in Doha on Friday, April 1, 2022.

Black Stars return after heroic display in Nigeria

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars have arrived safely in Accra after their successful World Cup play-off against Nigeria.

The four times African champions sealed qualification to the World Cup after a 1-1 draw in Abuja against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

In a video posted on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, the players and the entire management team arrived in the middle of the night to a rapturous Welcome.

Swindon Town celebrate Ghana goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot

English League Two side Swindon Town have expressed pride in seeing their number one goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott lead Ghana's Black Stars to the 2022 World Cup.

Wollactott put up a heroic display in the two legs as Ghana defeated Nigeria via the away goal ruling to make it to Qatar.

The club took to social media to celebrate the 25-year-old in a series of tweets, showing how proud they are to have.
