  • The Blues cruised to a 5-1 victory in the friendly as Kai Havertz netted a hat trick
  • The French defender only came back from injury ahead of the resumption of the Premier League on Boxing Day

Chelsea ace Wesley Fofana was recently handed a fresh injury scare as he was forced off a friendly on Tuesday, December 20 with an apparent knee strain.

The 22-year-old only recently came back from an injury setback ahead of the resumption of the Premier League on Boxing Day.

The Blues ran out 5-1 winners on the night, but the major blooper in an otherwise flawless game was Fofana’s scare.

He has since embarked on a rehabilitation session in Dubai and joined the Chelsea squad in Abu Dhabi, per Daily Mail.

Having missed the friendly against Aston Villa, Fofana has been looking forward to returning to action ahead of Chelsea’s game against Bournemouth on December 27.

Fofana speaks on injury scare

Amid concerns that he had suffered another injury setback, Fofana commented on Instagram saying it was “nothing bad”.

“Nothing bad champion, not even 1 month we’re back to break everything.”

It remains to be seen whether Fofana was talking about his latest injury or whether he was speaking on his overall recovery.

Broja out, Reece James in

Earlier in the month, Graham Potter’s side was handed a major injury blow after Armando Broja tore his anterior cruciate ligament and was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

But there is some positive news at Stamford Bridge as defender Reece James is stepping up his recovery and was afforded some minutes in the warm-up match against Brentford.

Brighton could lose Mac Allister

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on how Brighton and Hove Albion are growing increasingly worried they could lose Alexis Mac Allister to big clubs.

Mac Allister, 23, was one of the shining stars at the World Cup as he helped Argentine to global glory thanks to some solid performances.

He has since been given a two-week holiday by Brighton, with the club growing increasingly concerned that they may not be able to keep him with European big guns hovering.

According to Brighton chief executive Paul Barber, keeping Mac Allister will prove to be a tall order, especially with the January transfer window coming up.
