  • Roman Abramovich's assets in England have been frozen by the United Kingdom government due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine
  • This latest development means that the Russian billionaire will no longer be able to sell Premier League side Chelsea
  • However, the United Kingdom government have issued special license that will make the club to pay workers

Following the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich by the UK government in their response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it means that the Blues owner can no longer sell the club.

For the past few days, Roman Abramovich has been planning to sell Chelsea after being attacked on social media for his country's invasion of Ukraine with many claiming that he is close to president Vladimir Putin.

The recent move by the UK government is to stop Roman Abramovich from making money from the sales of Premier League side Chelsea.

And according to the report on BBC, the government has issued a special license for Chelsea that will allow the Blues to play their games and pay salary of staff.

1. Chelsea are able to pay the wages of all employees, including players and coaching staff

2. They can pay "reasonable" costs of travel to and from fixtures but not exceeding £20,000 per game per team

3. They can pay "reasonable" costs towards hosting home fixtures, not exceeding £500,000 per fixture per team

4. Fans who bought season tickets or individual match tickets before 10 March 2022 can attend games

Chelsea aim to cement top four spot Against Norwich City amid Abramovich uncertainty

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Chelsea is in the driving seat to cement its top-four status in this season's Premier League title race.

With the challenge for the trophy over, the Blues can instead focus on ensuring that that they finish in third place behind Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.

They will get a golden chance to do so against yo-yo side Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Chelsea is currently on 53 points, five ahead of Arsenal on 48 points. The side from Stamford Bridge has, however, played one more match than the Gunners, so victory is imperative.

The Canaries, on the other hand, appear to be going straight back down to the Championship. They are rooted at the bottom of the table, having gained just 17 points from 27 matches this season. City are also on a four-match losing streak, and it is something that should continue when the Londoners roll into town.
