  • Barcelona recorded a 3-1 victory over Real Madrid in Sunday's El Clasico to win the Spanish Super Cup.
  • The Catalan giants defeated Real Betis via penalty shootouts on their way to a record-extending 14th Super Cup crown.
  • Goals from Gavi, Pedri and Robert Lewandowski ensured Xavi's charges grabbed both the bragging rights and the coveted trophy.

Barcelona youngster Gavi put up a spectacular performance as his side crashed archrivals Real Madrid 3-1 to clinch the Spanish Super Cup.

Benzema would score later on but it proved to be a consolation as Xavi's charges held on to secure a record-extending 14th Spanish Super Cup.

But the night belonged to Gavi, who received endless praise from football fans.

Gavi makes World Cup history

Spain youngster Gavi has made World Cup history, following his sensational performance against Costa Rica during their meeting on Wednesday, November 23.

The teenage sensation was part of Spain's starting XI during their Group E opener at the Al Thumama Stadium.

The Barcelona star justified his inclusion in the match, as he found the back of the net in the second half of the match to help Spain get their World Cup campaign off to a flying start.

Gavi equals Pele's record

Sports Brief earlier reported that Spain international Gavi on Tuesday afternoon, 6 December, became the youngest player to start a knockout game at the men’s World Cup since Pele in 1958.

The Barcelona youngster achieved this success while featuring Spain against Morocco in the round of 16 clash at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 18-year-old was superb for Spain in the first half of the encounter roving around the midfield even though he was unable to score any goal.
