  • Pique has announced his imminent retirement, with his final Barcelona game coming this weekend against Almeria at Camp Nou

Sergio Ramos may have been a rival of Gerard Pique, but the Paris Saint-Germain defender has put all that aside to send the 35-year-old his well wishes after his retirement.

Pique caused a stir in world football on Thursday, November 3, after the Barcelona defender announced his shock retirement from the game after a troubled start to the 2022/23 campaign.

Ramos, who captained Real Madrid and played against Pique for many years in El Clasico, has now sent a message of support to his Barcelona adversary, Daily Mirror reports.

The former Real Madrid captain paid tribute to his former Spain teammate and urged the 35-year-old defender to remember all his achievements, and to enjoy the rest of his life.

Ramos and Pique played alongside each other over 80 times at international level with Spain, winning both the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship together.

Ramos makes World Cup plea

Meanwhile, Sergio Ramos hopes to make Spain’s final 23-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is meant to be his final tournament for the national team, The Sun reports.

The 36-year-old defender made it into Luis Enrique's 55-man list of players, which he will need to break into 26 in the coming weeks prior to the start of the World Cup.

Ramos will hope to win the tournament for the second time in his career, after playing a key role in helping Spain clinch its first World Cup trophy in South Africa in 2010.

Ramos receives 28th red card

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Sergio Ramos continued his bizarre tradition of receiving his marching orders, after the Spaniard was sent off during Paris Saint-Germain's game against Reims on October 8.

Ramos, who has rediscovered his form this campaign after a difficult first year with the Parisians, saw red four minutes to half-time.

The 35-year-old former Real Madrid captain, who has carved a niche for himself as a no-nonsense defender, was sent off for dissent after initially picking up a yellow card.
