The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appointed Finidi George as the new Super Eagles coach just over a week ago but are yet to name his backroom staff.

Several coaches have been mentioned as potential assistant coaches to Finidi, but no official decision has been made.

US Under-19 coach, Michael Nsien, has disclosed that the NFF approached him, but a deal never materialised.

The American-based Nigerian coach had expressed interest in the head coach role before Finidi took the job.

However, according to Punch, Nsien and the NFF couldn't agree to the terms of his employment.

"Yes, they [the NFF] approached me. They cannot meet my salary requirements," he admitted.

The report adds that the NFF offered to pay Nsien per match instead of a full contract, which he rejected. Before Finidi took the role, the former Nigeria U23 player gave a sneak preview of how he would set up his team.

Daniel Amokachi and Emmanuel Amuneke are names that have come up constantly since Finidi's appointment as national coach, but none have been hired as assistants yet.

As interim boss, Finidi coached the team during the March international break, where Nigeria beat Ghana for the first time since 2006 before they suffered a defeat to Mali.

Udeze's message to NFF

Sports Brief also previously reported on former Nigeria international, Ifeanyi Udeze, asking the NFF to allow Finidi to choose his own backroom technical team.

He wanted to avoid giving the new coach a headache, with Finidi likely have assistant coaches in use before Nigeria play South Africa and Benin next month.

What Finidi wants to see in a Nigeria team

Sports Brief also previously reported on Finidi listing characteristics in the Super Eagles he would love to see improved and enhanced.

The former Real Betis player made those comments a few years ago while evaluating the Nigerian team, believing the side 'lacked an identity'.
