Former Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil has called time on his illustrious football career spanning 17 years.

Ozil's incredible football journey saw him play in the game's biggest stages, including the Champions League and the World Cup.

That journey also saw him share a dressing room with some of the finest players in the world, especially during his time with Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Ozil included former teammate, Alexis Sanchez and Bayern Munich ace, Serge Gnabry in his start-studded XI.

Who else made Ozil's team?

In a report cited by The Sun, the World Cup winner settled for a 4-2-3-1 formation, with David Ospina featuring between the sticks.

Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker made it into Ozil's heart of defence, with Bacary Sagna and Sead Kolasinac playing on either flank of the backline.

In midfield, the ex-German star settled for Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey, drafting himself in the No. 10 role.

Sanchez and Gnabry were included upfront, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leading the attacking line.

Ozil's top XI answer attracted a large number of comments, including some raised eyebrows from his fans on social media.

Ozil donates to earthquake victims

Turkey and some parts of Syria were hit by a series of earthquakes last month which killed over 1,500 people, including Ghanaian football star, Christian Atsu, leaving many others displaced.

A third-generation German of Turkish origin, the 34-year-old Ozil donated relief materials to victims of the disaster and sent a heartfelt message to the country, as reported by Sports Brief.

He turned down playing for the Asian country despite playing a friendly match for them in 2006 as he was not looking to take up a Turkish passport at that time.
