Two late goals including an own goal by Pontus Jansson were enough to earn the Blues a place in the last four of the competition.

Thomas Tuchel's charges came into the match off a poor run of form that saw them drop points against Wolves in their last outing in the Premier League.

But buoyed by the return of key players including Jorginho, the west Londoners were able to see off a spirited Brentford side at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Tuchel shuffled his newly-expanded team during the trip, with academy youngsters being afforded a couple of minutes under their belts.

However, it was the hosts who drew the first blood, with Kepa being forced into action to deny Wissa from close range.

Chelsea's Harvey Vale went close minutes before the break but missed a wide-open header in front of the Brentford goal.

The second half of the match saw the Blues dominate proceedings, with Mason Mount and Reece James creating half chances.

But the scores remained goalless until the final 10 minutes of action when Brentford centre-back Jansson hammered a James cross into his own net.

Christian Pulisic went on to draw a penalty in the 85th minute which Jorginho stepped up to convert to hand Chelsea a deserved win and a ticket to the semis of the Carabao Cup.

Five-star Arsenal hammer Sunderland

Eddie Nketiah was the Gunners' man of the moment as he netted a sensational hat-trick to inspire his side to victory.

Nicolas Pepe and Charlie Patino also got their names on the scoresheet, with Nathan Broadhead scoring Sunderland's consolation.
