The Guardian also reports the Football’s global body is proposing a major shake-up in the International footballing calendar after proposing the World Cup be played every two years instead of the four-year gap that the tournament has been used to.

The AFCON is usually played every two years between January and February but was hosted in June and July of 2019 when Egypt hosted.

There has been global concern regarding next year’s AFCON as rumours suggested Africa’s biggest football showpiece might suffer a third postponement but CAF President Patrice Motsepe and Cameroonian FA President Samuel Eto’o have both reiterated the African Cup of Nations will go on as scheduled according to Kingfut.com.

"If we can streamline the calendar and make sure that an Africa Cup of Nations could be played as part of a longer international window in the autumn, then I think we would have already achieved something quite important,"
"[This would mean] less disruption for so many leagues who have players of African nationality. A few years ago, no one cared if the Africa Cup of Nations was played in January and February - more or less,"
"Today it is becoming an issue because in January and February many leagues in Europe, in particular but also in other parts of the world where African players are playing, are in the middle of their competition and they have to release these players." Infantino said.

Club versus country rows has usually plagued the start of almost every Afcon competition as European clubs and managers have faulted the timing of the tournament especially when it kick-starts at the peak of the European football season.

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac aims to win Afcon

Earlier Sportsbrief reported that Ghana head coach Milovan Rajevac has set his sights on winning next year’s Afcon trophy after naming his provisional squad for the tournament.

Teams are already gearing up for Africa’s biggest football showpiece with less than three weeks to the start of the competition.

Ghana is expected to be camped in Qatar ahead of the tournament which starts in Cameroon on January 9th, 2022.
