FIFA President Infantino Wants 2021 AFCON Postponed As Big and Stunning Reason Emerges

Gianni Infantino who is the president of the world's football governing body has reportedly backed the move for the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon to be postponed.

African nations are currently in top gear preparing for the continent's biggest tournament which has Algeria as the reigning champions having defeated Senegal in 2019's final.

There have been talks over getting the 2021 African Cup of Nations postponed again for the third time as some European clubs are also not happy about releasing their players.

One Premier League club who will feel the AFCON is Liverpool as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will be representing their nations.

What is Gianni Infantino's reason to get AFCON postponed?

According to the report on Inews and Guardian, the FIFA boss is said to be prioritizing the Club World Cup which starts the day after the AFCON final.

Fifa president is said to have the support of a small but highly influential minority within CAF though Sunday’s Zoom meeting of its executive committee ended with no agreement reached.

However, there will be another meeting which will be the final one on the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

Earlier, Sportsbrief had reported how Augustine Eguavoen who is the interim handler of the Super Eagles was backed by former Nigerian goalkeeper Peter Rufai to win the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

With days to the kickoff the competition, the Nigerian Football Federation announced the sacking of Gernot Rohr after five years without winning any title.

Nigerian Football Federation in their statement made it clear that Gernot Rohr lost control of the dressing room which was the reason he was fired.

And in their effort to make sure that Super Eagles do well at the coming competition in Cameroon, the NFF anointed Augustine Eguavoen as the man to take the team to Cameroon.
