Poland became the first nation to exit on June 21 after the Netherlands played out to a barren draw against France. Herein, Sports Brief looks at what kind of results every team needs to qualify for the next round.

What every team needs to qualify for Euro 2024 Round of 16

The analysis was done after every team had played two games. It only focuses on who will qualify as the group winners and runners-up. The permutations of the best third-placed teams have not been included.

Group A

1. Germany - 6 points -already through to the knock-out stage. They need a point against Switzerland to qualify as group winners.

2. Switzerland - 4 points - The Swiss will qualify if they avoid defeat against Germany or if Hungary takes points off Scotland. If Scotland win and they lose, they will be separated by head-to-head goal difference, overall goals scored, disciplinary points and European qualifiers rankings as stipulated in Article 20 of UEFA tie-breakers.

3. Scotland - 1 point - They will be through if they beat Hungary and Switzerland loses to Germany. However, they will also need to ensure they have bettered Switzerland in the aforementioned tie-breaker categories.

4. Hungary - 0 points - Still in the competition but can not finish in the top two. They need to beat Scotland and wait for the best third-placed teams' rankings.

Group B

1. Spain - 6 points - already through as group winners.

2. Italy - 3 points - Will finish as the runners-up if they avoid defeat against Croatia. The defending champions will be eliminated if they lose and Albania beat Spain.

3. Albania - 1 point - Sylvinho's side will be through as runners-up if they beat Spain and Croatia beat Italy. They will still need to better Croatia's tally of goal difference and goals scored if need be.

4. Croatia - 1 point - The 2018 World Cup finalists will qualify as runners-up if they beat Italy and Albania fails to beat Spain. An Albania and a Croatia win will see the two separated by the tie-breakers formulas.

Group C

1. England - 4 points - Will be through if they avoid defeat against Slovenia or if Denmark fails to beat Serbia. A win for the Three Lions will see them qualify as group winners, irrespective of the result of Denmark vs Serbia.

2. Denmark - 2 points- Will be through if they beat Serbia. If they lose and Slovenia beats England, Denmark will be eliminated.

3. Slovenia - 2 points - They will be through if they beat England. Slovenia can also win the group if they win and Denmark fails to beat Serbia.

4. Serbia - 1 point - They will qualify if they beat Denmark and Slovenia fails to beat England. Serbia needs a win first to give themselves a chance at the tie-breaker stage, depending on the result of the other game.

Group D

1. Netherlands - 4 points - Will be through (in the top two) if they avoid defeat against Austria. Can win the group with a win.

2. France - 4 points - Will be through (in the top two) if they avoid defeat against Poland. Can win the group with a win.

3. Austria - 3 points - Will finish in the top two if they beat the Netherlands. Can win the group if they win that game and France drops points vs Poland.

4. Poland - 0 points - already eliminated.

Group E

1. Romania - 3 points - Will be through if they beat Slovakia as potential group winners. A draw for them and a draw in the other game could also see them finish in the top two.

2. Belgium - 3 points - Will be through as potential group winners if they beat Ukraine. A draw could also be enough if Slovakia fails to take points off Romania.

3. Slovakia - 3 points - Will be through if they beat Romania. A draw could be enough for a top two finish if Ukraine fails to beat Belgium.

4. Ukraine - 3 points - Will qualify if they beat Belgium. A draw could also be enough if Romania beats Slovakia.

Group F

1. Portugal - 6 points - already through as group winners.

2. Turkey - 3 points - will be through as runners-up if they beat Czech Republic. A point could also see them finish in the top two even if Georgia beats Portugal.

3. Czech Republic - 1 point - Will qualify in the top two if they beat Turkey and better Georgia on the tie-breakers if Georgia beats Portugal.

4. Georgia - 1 point - Will qualify in the top two if they beat Portugal and better Czech Republic on the tie-breakers if the Czech Republic beats Turkey.

Ronaldo stars in Portugal's win

Sports Brief also reported how Cristiano Ronaldo produced a beautiful assist in Portugal's 3-0 win over Turkey.

Ronaldo set up the third goal of the game as Roberto Martinez's side won the group with one game to spare.
