Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has given his opinion on the eternal debate on who the greatest footballer of all time is between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi and Ronaldo are seen as two of the best players of all time, and both have competed at the top level for over 15 years, changing the face of the sport.

They have a combined 13 Ballon d'Or awards, with the Argentina captain having eight after winning his record-extending award last year following Argentina's World Cup triumph in Qatar.

Both are in the final years of their careers and have left European football to play in the Major League Soccer and Saudi Professional League with Inter Miami and Al-Nassr.

Jose Mourinho settles the GOAT debate

The 2024 European Championship and Copa America kicks off in a few days. Both men are expected to lead their team to a major tournament for possibly the last time in their career.

Mourinho, answering quick-fire questions on TNT Sports, was asked who was the player he never signed but wished he did, and his answer appears to settle the GOAT debate.

“Of course, the little guy, that little guy was not coachable, but I have to say in our generation, he [Messi] was the best,” he said.

This would shock some football fans who believe the Special One should have sided with his compatriot and the player he coached for three seasons.

Ronaldo settles the GOAT debate

Sports Brief previously reported on Ronaldo settling the GOAT debate with Messi after declaring the rivalry between him and the Argentine over at a Portugal press conference last year.

This admission came weeks after Messi completed his move to Inter Miami, and both men no longer played European football. The Argentine won another Ballon d'Or in the MLS.

Mourinho makes admission about Messi

Sports Brief previously reported on Jose Mourinho's admission about Lionel Messi after naming the former Barcelona captain as the player he wished he coached in his career.

The former Real Madrid boss claimed no manager could coach him; instead, you would learn from him because, unlike every other player, the 36-year-old was born with everything.
