Senegalese goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, has expressed satisfaction with his first season in the Saudi Pro League with giants Al-Ahli SC.

The former Chelsea shot-stopper kept the most clean sheets (15) in the league alongside Morocco and Al-Hilal goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

His move to Saudi Arabia received massive criticism with many claiming he was going to the Middle East to end his career.

However, the 32-year-old and several other stars, including five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, lit up the Saudi Pro League with dazzling performances.

After helping Al-Ahli finish third, Mendy took to social media to thank fans of the club while stating the competitiveness of the Saudi Pro League.

"I am proud of this first season in Saudi Arabia where I discovered a competitive league, Saudi Pro League," he wrote on Instagram.
"To all the fans of Al-Ahli, thank you for your unwavering support and for the incredible atmosphere you create at every match. Your passion drives us to give our best.
"Looking forward to seeing you again for an exciting new season where we will set ambitious goals," he added.

Mendy joins the Teranga Lions of Senegal for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mauritania this week.

"Next steps: World Cup qualification with my country," concluded Mendy.

Mendy joined the Saudi outfit last summer after winning the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea a season earlier and was named the best goalkeeper in Europe.

He made 33 appearances in the Saudi Pro League last season, conceding 33 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets, per Transfermarkt.

Mendy and Bounou finish season with most clean sheets

The African duo impressed in their first campaign with Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal, with Bounou winning the league title with the latter.

Mendy and Bounou kept 15 clean sheets at the end of the 2023/24 Saudi Pro League season, according to the SPL.
