Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman has reacted after leading Atalanta to their first-ever UEFA Europa League final victory against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday evening.

The Super Eagles star scored a hat-trick as the Italian side thrashed the Bundesliga champions 3-0 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The former RB Leipzig forward's treble sets a new record in the competition's history.

According to Squawka, as reported by Sports Brief, Lookman became the first player to score a hat-trick in a single-leg UEFA Cup/ Europa League final.

In an interview with TNT Sports after the match, Lookman claimed it was one of the best nights of his life.

"One of the best nights of my life," he said.
"It was an amazing performance from the team, and yeah, we did it. I don't have much words to say; it was a fantastic night."

The Nigerian international also commented on the Europa final being the first his team won out of the three finals this year.

"We were third-time lucky; I am just happy we won [the Europa League] today, so I am pleased," he added.
"We are going to celebrate because we made history tonight."

Lookman tipped for CAF Player of the Year Award

Sports Brief earlier reported that Ademola Lookman became one of the frontrunners for CAF's 2024 African Player of the Year award after an outstanding run with both club and country this year.

The Super Eagles star has been influential for Atalanta this season, delivering the goods at key moments, including scoring in the semi-final of the Copa Italia against Fiorentina.

This puts him ahead of another player mentioned in the CAF Player of the Year award debate, Mohammed Kudus, who has made 19 goal contributions for West Ham United in this campaign.
