Euro 2024 Group C Preview

England

Best finish: Runners-up (2020)

Euro 2020: Runners-up

England experienced tremendous heartbreak in the last staging of the European Championship, losing to Italy on penalties in the final in front of their home fans at Wembley Stadium.

They are well-positioned to make a deep run once again at Euro 2024, with England's lineup brimming with great talent.

Harry Kane returns as England forward after producing a stellar campaign in his first season with Bayern Munich. He claimed the European Golden Shoe after leading all scorers in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

Phil Foden won the Player of the Season in the Premier League after helping Manchester City win another title. Jude Bellingham also emerged as a Ballon d'Or candidate after leading Real Madrid to the La Liga and Champions League titles.

Denmark

Best finish: Champions (1992)

Euro 2020: Semi-finals

Coach Kasper Hjulmand will look to give Denmark fans another tournament to remember after their memorable run at Euro 2020.

He helped the Danes reach the semi-finals of that competition, rallying his players after Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest in the group stage.

One guy who needs to play well for Denmark at Euro 2024 is Rasmus Hojlund. He led the team in scoring in Euro qualifying, netting seven goals for the Danes.

He scored 16 goals in his first season with Manchester United, 10 of which came in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign. He also was among the Champions League's top scorers, bagging five goals for the Red Devils in the group stage.

Serbia

Best finish: Runners-up 1960, 1968 (both as Yugoslavia)

Euro 2020: Did not qualify

The Serbs are flying high under manager Dragan Stojković. They finished second in Group G behind Hungary to qualify for the European Championship for the first time since 2000.

This is the first time, though, that Serbia has reached a major final since the nation was formed. Serbia and Montenegro were still one country when they qualified for Euro 2000.

Aleksandar Mitrovic led Serbia's campaign in the qualifiers, scoring five goals. He is coming off a spectacular 2023-24 season for Al-Hilal, scoring 40 goals in 44 matches, helping his club win a domestic league and cup double.

He finished second behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot race, scoring 28 goals.

Slovenia

Best finish: Group stage (2000)

Euro 2020: Did not qualify

Matjaz Kek has been working wonders for Slovenia ever since he returned as their coach in 2018.

He helped his country secure promotion from Nations League C before guiding them to a Euro 2024 appearance.

Benjamin Sesko helped Slovenia reach the European Championship for the first time since 2000, scoring five goals in their qualifying campaign.

They finished second in Group H with 22 points after posting a 7-1-2 record. They shared a similar record with Denmark, but failed to win the group because of the tie-breaker.

Interestingly, both countries have been drawn together in the same group again at Euro 2024.

Hope returns for Germany ahead of Euros

Sports Brief also previously reported on hope returning for Germany at Euro ahead of the 2024 edition.

The hosts defeated France and the Netherlands last March in friendlies to display their title credentials.

They will open their Euro campaign against Scotland on June 14, aiming to win the Euros on home soil.
