Sports Brief lists most scoring Nigerians in Europe's top five leagues in a single season.

Most scoring Nigerians in Europe in single season

10. Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Portsmouth 2003/04) 19 goals

The legendary Nigerian striker scored 19 goals in 43 appearances during his time with Portsmouth in the 2003-04 season.

The former Maccabi Haifa star scored 16 goals in the Premier League, one in the FA Cup, and two in the Carling Cup.

9. Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City 2020/21) 19 goals

The former Manchester City forward achieved his best scoring campaign in the 2020-21 season, finding the back of the net 19 times in 39 appearances.

The Leicester City forward scored 12 goals in 25 games in the Premier League, four in the FA Cup, and three in the UEFA Europa League.

8. Taiwo Awoniyi (Union Berlin 2021/22) 20 goals

After a strong season with Union Berlin in the German Bundesliga, the Super Eagles striker earned a move back to the Premier League.

The former Liverpool star scored 20 goals in 43 games in all competitions, 15 of which were in the Bundesliga.

7. Simy Nwankwo (Crotone 2020/21) 20 goals

The Nigerian striker became Crotone's all-time record scorer after a fantastic 2020/21 season in the Italian Serie A.

The lanky striker scored 20 league goals in 38 games but couldn't keep Crotone in Serie A.

6. Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Everton 2007/08) 21 goals

Aiyegbeni is the only player to appear twice on the list, as he has achieved another goal-filled season with a new club in England.

The former Leicester City striker scored 21 goals in all competitions in his first season with Everton.

5. Brown Ideye (FC Sochaux 2009/10) 21 goals

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner scored 21 goals in all competitions in the 2009/10 season, ranking him fifth on the all-time Nigerian list.

4. Terem Moffi (Lorient and Nice 2022/23) 21 goals

Moffi played for two clubs in the 2022-23 in the French Ligue and garnered 21 goals in 38 games for both teams.

He scored 12 goals in 18 games for Lorient before moving to Nice in the winter transfer window and scoring nine goals in 20 appearances.

3. Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen 2023/24) 21 goals

The Nigerian striker struggled with injury in the 2023-24 season but managed to notch 21 goals in 34 appearances as Bayer Leverkusen won the domestic double.

He capped off the season with the Rookie of the Year award in the German Bundesliga.

2. Obafemi Martins (Inter Milan 2004/05) 22 goals

Martins had his best season in Europe with Inter Milan in the 2004-05 campaign. He scored 22 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions.

11 of the goals came in the Serie A, while five were from the UEFA Champions League.

1. Victor Osimhen (Napoli 2022/23) 31 goals

Osimhen is lonely at the top as he is the only player who hit the 30-goal mark on the list.

The Nigerian led Napoli to their first Serie A title after a 33-year wait and was crowned the league's highest goalscorer that season.

The former Lille striker scored 26 league goals in 32 appearances, alongside five goals in the UEFA Champions League.

Osimhen linked with Saudi move

Sports Brief earlier reported that Valter De Maggio had claimed that Osimhen could be moving to the Middle East as the Nigerian keeps attracting interest from Saudi Arabian clubs.

The likes of Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Chelsea have been heavily linked with the Super Eagles forward, but the Italian journalist believes he may not remain in Europe.
