Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface, has reacted to the UEFA Europa League final defeat to Atalanta on Wednesday, May 22, in Dublin.

The 23-year-old Nigerian forward climbed off the bench in the second half but it was his compatriot Ademola Lookman who stole the show.

Lookman's hat-trick was enough to hand the Bergamo-based club their first-ever European silverware.

Despite the disappointment, Boniface is already looking forward to the final of the DFB Pokal on Saturday against Kaiserslautern.

"Toor. This is part of the work. One more to go," he posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Having gone 51 games without defeat, the newly-crowned German champions were stopped by the Italians.

A victory against Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final will see Leverkusen end the campaign with a double, the first in their 120-year history.

Meanwhile, Boniface enjoyed an impressive campaign, winning the Rookie of the Year award in the Bundesliga.

Although an injury kept him out for the most part of 2024, he came back strongly and was on target in the DFB Pokal semi-final.

He scored 21 goals and delivered 10 assists across the campaign, per Transfermarkt.

Lookman ends Bayer Leverkusen's run with hat-trick

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Lookman inspired Atalanta to their first European title after netting a hat-trick in the final of the Europa League as the Italians ended Bayer Leverkusen's unbeaten run.

Lookman opened the scoring early in the game before adding his second halfway through the first half.

The Nigeria forward completed an incredible hat-trick in the second half, becoming the first African to achieve the magnificent feat.

Boniface flaunts accolades after Bundesliga success

Sports Brief also reported that Nigeria forward, Boniface, shared his achievements with Bayer Leverkusen in his first season with the club.

Boniface starred as the BayArena outfit won their first-ever Bundesliga title in magnificent fashion, going through the entire season without a defeat.

The 23-year-old was named Rookie of the Year for his outstanding performances for the club across the campaign.
