The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has unveiled Finidi George as the new Super Eagles manager ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.

The Nigerian football governing body appointed the former Ajax man after showing his talents as Jose Peseiro's assistant and as an interim coach during the last international break.

After two weeks of being announced as the country's new boss, Finidi was spotted at his unveiling in Abuja alongside the NFF president, Ibrahim Gusau, and the minister of Sports, John Enoh.

According to a report by Soccernet, the former Enyimba FC coach signed a one-year contract and would be assisted by ex-Super Eagles teammate Daniel Amokachi.

Amokachi is not new to the Nigerian men's national team set-up, as he was part of Stephen Keshi's coaching crew that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The 53-year-old will bring two assistants from Europe, while Olatunji Baruwa will work as the goalkeeper coach.

Finidi's first task is the qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic in June. The Super Eagles are yet to register a win in the qualifying series, as they drew their first two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Much is expected from the former Real Betis star as he's being singled out among other local coaches in the country.

Finidi ends 3-year stay with Enyimba

Sports Brief earlier reported when Finidi ended his three-year stay as Enyimba FC coach ahead of his unveiling.

The former Mallorca star said his goodbyes to the Aba-based club's fans, staff, and management, before assuming his role as Super Eagles coach.

The former Real Betis winger led the People's Elephants to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) title last season.
