Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner, orchestrated a stunning 4-0 victory over Manchester United on Monday, May 6, at Selhurst Park.

A brace from Michael Oliseh and solitary strikes from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell sealed the fate of the Red Devils, marking their 13th defeat of the season.

United's defensive woes have been glaring this term, and they were put to the sword by an effective Palace side, who did a league double over their illustrious opponents for the first time in the club's history, per ESPN.

Man United's nightmarish campaign this season

Erik ten Hag's charges have conceded 81 goals in all competitions this season, their highest tally since 1977, underpinning their struggles.

Additionally, the risk of missing out on European football next season looms large.

Remarkably, United's struggles extend to their away form, with only Nottingham Forest having suffered more Premier League away defeats by a margin of at least four goals since the start of last season.

Why United were thumped, Glasner explains

After the match, Glasner explained how he masterminded Manchester United's downfall so effectively despite admitting his side did not perform to his satisfaction in the first half.

“I think the first half, we didn’t really play as well as we could, so it was not that consistent,” he told Sky Sports, as cited by United in Focus.
“In defence, we opened the middle too often and they could find the pockets and we had a little bit of a problem, but we were very efficient, so we scored very nice goals.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt boss shed light on the adjustments his side made after recess to ensure they put ten Hag's men to the sword.

“But at halftime, we made two or three adaptations, the players listened again, and in the second half, we were much better and in much more control of the game.
“We created a lot of chances and scored nice goals, but we were a little bit more consistent in our basics, and so it’s a great win, and congrats to the team.”

Ronaldo fans revel in United's embarrassing loss

Sports Brief also reported that Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United didn't go according to plan for the now Al-Nassr superstar.

Manager Erik ten Hag considered the Portuguese star surplus to requirements, sparking a widely publicised conflict between the two pivotal figures at Old Trafford.

With United enduring another humiliating defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night, it's no wonder Ronaldo fans found satisfaction in the manager's downfall.
