Bayern Munich star Josip Stanisic has made history after getting the Bundesliga medal despite Bayer Leverkusen winning the top-flight crown.

Leverkusen were officially crowned the Bundesliga champions on Sunday, April 14, after their 5-0 win over Werder Bremen at the BayArena.

Their triumph came after a fine run of form under Xabi Alonso that has them unbeaten across competitions so far this season.

According to SPORTbible, a first senior hat-trick from Florian Wirtz and a goal each by Victor Boniface and Granit Xhaka was all Leverkusen needed to secure the German top-flight title for the first time in their history.

Their triumph also effectively ended Bayern's impressive run of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles.

Stanisic gets Bundesliga medal with Leverkusen

But in a rather bizarre twist, Stanisic, a Bayern player, has got a Bundesliga medal despite his side losing in the title race.

The Croatian star is currently on loan with Leverkusen, having joined the Alonso tutored side temporarily until the end of the season.

Born in Munich, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 29 appearances with Die Werkself in all competitions.

His involvement has played a key part in his new side's impressive run, with the greatest highlight so far coming when he scored against his parent club back in February.

At the time, Leverkusen recorded a 3-0 huge win over Thomas Tuchel's men to cement their lead at the top of the table.

Stanisic now becomes only the second player in Bundesliga history to win the crown in two consecutive seasons with two different clubs after August Starek in 1968 and 1969.

Nathan Tella makes Bundesliga history

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Nathan Tella making history as the fourth Nigerian to win the Bundesliga title.

Tella was a part of the Bayer Leverkusen team that ended Bayern Munich’s 11-year dominance in the German topflight.
