Bayer Leverkusen won their first Bundesliga title in 120 years and Nathan Tella is delighted is delighted to be among the set of players to make history for the German club.

Xabi Alonso’s team bagged the German topflight title with five games to spare after thrashing Werder Bremen 5-0 on Sunday with the Nigerian winger playing a crucial part in the victory.

According to Complete Sports, Tella claims he is extremely delighted to have won the Bundesliga in his first season with Bayer Leverkusen after joining the Germans from English Championship club Southampton last summer.

“Yeah, it’s obviously very special. I’ve always said trophies aren’t guaranteed.
“The fact that I’ve had an opportunity to come to this club in my first season with an incredibly talented group of players, unbelievable coaching staff, and win something first time of asking is special. It’s an important moment for the history of the club.”

Bayer Leverkusen signed Tella for a reported fee of €23.3 million and the Nigerian winger has scored seven goals and created four assists in 34 appearances in all competitions this season.

Nathan Tella makes Bundesliga history

Meanwhile, Tella made history as the fourth Nigerian to win the Bundesliga title after helping Bayer Leverkusen end Bayern Munich’s 11-year dominance in the German topflight, ESPN reports,

The 24-year-old right-winger joins teammate Victor Boniface, Pascal Ojigwe (Kaiserslautern), and Sunday Oliseh (Borussia Dortmund) as the only Nigerians to have won the German league title.

Tella and Boniface will hope to make more history with Bayer Leverkusen as they seek to add the Europa League and the DFB Pokal to their list of titles won this season.

Xhaka praises Tella and Boniface

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Granit Xhaka singled out the Nigerian duo of Boniface and Tella for praise in the aftermath of Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga win and post-match title celebrations.

The versatile midfielder, brimming with excitement, emphasized the impact that the Super Eagles duo has had on Leverkusen’s title charge.

The Nigerian pair have undeniably been instrumental to the team's success, with Boniface amassing 11 goals in the Bundesliga while Tella notched five goals and two assists.
