  • Napoli were held to a 2-2 frustrating draw by Frosinone in the Serie A
  • Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, scored his 15th goal of the season
  • The Partenopei are 8th in the standings after 32 games with 49 points

Napoli missed an opportunity to move up in the Serie A standings after settling for a 2-2 draw against struggling Frosinone at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Sunday, April 14.

Matteo Politano put the hosts ahead after 16 minutes before Walid Cheddira equalized for the Canaries 15 minutes after the break.

Victor Osimhen got on the scoresheet 3 minutes after the hour mark, but the 26-year-old Morroccan levelled the score for the away team 10 minutes later.

The game intensified in the closing minutes, but Napoli couldn't secure a winning goal and was subsequently booed off by their fans, as reported by All Nigeria Soccer.

The 2022/23 Serie A champions have struggled for consistency, managing back-to-back wins only once since the start of 2024. The result leaves them eighth on the log with 49 points, with only six games remaining in the season.

Osimhen's goal was his 15th of the season in all competitions, with 13 in the league and two in the Champions League. His standout performances have attracted attention from top European clubs, with PSG and Chelsea both pursuing the striker.

Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly close to securing the Nigerian's services, but face resistance from Napoli, who are demanding his full release clause of €130 million. PSG is prepared to offer €90 million for the striker, equivalent to around N115.3 billion in Nigerian currency. However, the club has rejected any lower bids, as reported by Corriere Dello Sport.

Chelsea has also reportedly made a player-plus-cash offer, including Romelu Lukaku, but the Gli Azzurri rejected the proposal, preferring a straight cash deal, as reported by Napoli Magazine.

Napoli urged to consider Viktor Gyokeres as Osimhen's replacement

Sports Brief reported that former Sporting CP defensive midfielder, Josè Luis Vidigal, urged Napoli to target Viktor Gyokeres as they prepare for Osimhen's anticipated departure this summer.

Osimhen is expected to bid farewell to last season's Serie A champions at the end of the season.

Chelsea's pursuit appears the most vigorous among these suitors, with former Premier League players openly advocating for his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
