  • Former Sporting midfielder Josè Luis Vidigal has asked Napoli to consider Viktor Gyokeres
  • The striker is attracting interest from top European clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal
  • The Swede has impressed with 36 goals and 15 assists across all competitions this season

Former Sporting CP defensive midfielder, Josè Luis Vidigal, believes Napoli should target Viktor Gyokeres as they prepare for Victor Osimhen's anticipated departure this summer.

Osimhen, much sought-after by top clubs including Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, is expected to bid farewell to last season's Serie A champions at the end of the season.

Chelsea's pursuit appears the most vigorous among these suitors, with former Premier League players openly advocating for his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Gyokeres could depart from the Portuguese league leaders, with other big clubs also reportedly expressing interest in signing him. The 25-year-old has significantly impacted the club's performances this season, scoring 36 goals and giving 15 assists in 42 appearances, as reported by All Nigeria Soccer.

Vidigal feels that Gyokeres has the potential to replicate the Super Eagles talisman's goal-scoring prowess should Napoli manage to secure his signature. However, the stumbling block might be his high valuation at around 100 million euros, which poses a significant financial challenge.

"He is an incredible striker. He is different from other strikers, he attacks depth well. He's a striker with characteristics that I haven't seen for years. Immediately a starter at Napoli? Osimhen will leave and in Naples they will need a strong striker. If Gyokeres comes to Italy he will score many goals like Osimhen did. In every match he will amaze," he said, as quoted by Area Napoli.

Meanwhile, Napoli's recruitment team has reportedly shortlisted Santiago Giménez of Feyenoord and Jonathan David of Lille as potential successors to Osimhen.

Napoli eye Victor Boniface to replace Osimhen

Sports Brief reported that Napoli set their sights on Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Okoh Boniface.

Boniface, aged 23, showcased his prowess in the first half of the season for Xabi Alonso's side, delivering 10 goals and eight assists in just 15 starts for Die Werkself.

His stellar performance earned him the Rookie of the Month award for four consecutive months.
