Games where Messi scored free-kick doubles

Barcelona vs. Sevilla (August 2015)

Messi first accomplished that rare feat against Sevilla on August 11, 2015, scoring two free-kick goals in Barcelona's dramatic 5-4 victory in the UEFA Super Cup.

The Argentine star scored a sublime free kick in the seventh minute to tie the match at 1-1. He netted another delightful free kick in the 15th minute to put Barcelona ahead 2-1, per the BBC.

Those two goals helped the Catalan giants win the UEFA Super Cup for the first time since 2011.

Espanyol vs. Barcelona (December 2018)

Messi's second career free-kick double came in the La Liga match against Espanyol on December 9, 2018.

The Barcelona star opened the scoring in the 17th minute, whipping his free kick into the top right corner.

He completed the 4-0 rout with another spectacular free-kick goal in the 65th minute.

Barcelona vs. Celta Vigo (November 2019)

Messi recorded his 52nd career hat-trick in style on November 9, 2019, scoring two free-kick goals in the 4-1 win against Celta Vigo.

He gave Barcelona a 2-1 lead just before the half-time break, curling his free kick into the top corner, per ESPN.

Messi produced an almost identical set piece at the start of the second half to complete his hat trick.

Ronaldo's free-kick doubles

Ronaldo moved ahead of Messi in the career free-kick doubles list with his spectacular display against Abha on Tuesday.

He scored two sublime free kicks in the 11th and 21st minutes to power Al-Nassr's 8-0 victory.

It was the fourth time Ronaldo has scored two free-kick goals in a game. He first accomplished that feat in Manchester United's 5-0 win over Stoke City in 2008.

He wasted no time recording a free-kick double for Real Madrid, achieving that feat in the Champions League game against FC Zurich in 2009.

Ronaldo's third career free-kick double happened in 2011 when Real Madrid faced Villarreal in La Liga.
