Since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) break, Vilakazi's trajectory has risen, earning promotion to the senior team under interim coach Cavin Johnson. Making his professional debut and gracing the turf in the iconic Soweto Derby at the Calabash, he has quickly become a player to watch.

Despite a challenging season for AmaKhosi, the youngster has set his sights on securing a runner-up position in the DStv Premiership, thereby clinching a spot in the prestigious CAF Champions League.

“Some of the things that I’d like to achieve at club level is to make sure that we try to win all the remaining games because that will increase our chances to finish in number two and hopefully play in the CAF Champions League,” he remarked, as quoted by iDiski Times.

Transitioning seamlessly from club to country, Vilakazi's aspirations extend to the national stage. As he joins the U20 squad, his primary goal is contributing to South Africa's qualification for the upcoming AFCON.

He is eager to make his mark with the Glamour Boys as they gear up to face Cape Town City and Stellenbosch in the league. The upcoming clash with The Citizens promises to be thrilling, with both teams vying for crucial points to bolster their chances of continental qualification.

With just a two-point difference separating them from Cape Town City on the log standings, Johnson's men will seek to capitalize on their opponent's inconsistent form, as reported by Goal.

Vilakazi earns Praise from Cavin Johnson

Sports Brief reported that Kaizer Chiefs' interim coach, Cavin Johnson, lauded the promise shown by Mfundo Vilakazi following the teenager's debut in professional football on Sunday, February 25.

At 18 years old, the player entered the field to cheers from fans at the FNB Stadium in the 63rd minute, replacing Mduduzi Shabalala.

However, despite his promising performance, Chiefs suffered a disappointing 5-4 defeat on penalties to second-tier Milford FC in the Nedbank Cup Last 32.
