  • Lavia has played only 32 minutes since joining Chelsea last August

Romeo Lavia's turbulent debut season with Chelsea took a turn for the worse as his 2023–24 campaign prematurely ended due to recurring injuries.

Romeo Lavia's injury-stricken season at Chelsea

The Belgian midfielder's season took a setback when he sustained a thigh injury during a match against Crystal Palace on December 27, 2023, sidelining him from action.

Despite initial hopes for recovery, recent tests have revealed a setback in his rehabilitation process.

Prior to this setback, Romeo had already endured a four-month absence earlier in the season due to an ankle injury, making a delayed debut for the Blues after his transfer from Southampton.

On Wednesday, March 27, Chelsea confirmed that the midfielder would be unavailable for the remainder of the season due to a setback in his recovery from the thigh injury sustained in December.

In an official statement, the club announced: "Midfielder Romeo Lavia will regrettably miss the remainder of our 2023–24 campaign following a setback in his recovery.
"Recent medical assessments have confirmed that Lavia, who sustained a significant thigh injury against Crystal Palace back in December, will not feature again this season."

Lavia breaks silence after season declared over

"Hi, Chelsea family. As you may know and despite my countless efforts, I will be missing the remainder of the season," he wrote on Instagram. "This has been a frustrating season for me, not being able to help my teammates.
"I love this squad, this badge and being on the pitch more than anything. Trust that I have given my all every day to get back. Thank you for the love, support and critics, because they all affect me positively and keep me going.
"Can't wait to give it back and share many special moments together [blue heart emoji] See you soon."
