  • Nigeria fell to a disappointing defeat to Mali in an international friendly game in Morocco
  • Some Eagles players failed to replicate the same performance they put up against Ghana
  • Sports Brief has listed the Nigerian players with poor performance against Eric Chelle's side

The Super Eagles ended their international break with a 2-0 loss to Mali at the Grand de Stade in Marrakech, Morocco on Tuesday evening (March 26).

Les Aigles scored in both halves, with their youngsters El Bilal Toure and Kamory Doumbia finding the back of the nets.

Sports Brief takes a look at four Super Eagles players who had a poor outing against Mali.

Nigerian players with poor performance against Mali

1. Wilfred Ndidi

The Leicester City midfielder was impressive in the last match against Ghana but looked different against Mali as he failed to replicate his previous performance.

The Nigerian midfielder lost most of the tackles and ground duels he contested in the match.

2. Cyriel Dessers

The former AZ Alkmaar striker scored the Super Eagles' first goal against Ghana in the first friendly match but had a bad game against Les Aigles.

The Rangers star missed Nigeria's best chance that could have levelled the game at 1-1 and failed to trouble the Malian solid defenders.

3. Chidozie Awaziem

It was an off day in office for the former FC Porto as he gave the Malians the first goal on the platter of gold after slipping in an attempt to play a pass to Stanley Nwabali.

4. Kenneth Omeruo

The former Chelsea defender was not responsible for any of the goals conceded by Super Eagles, but his performance was below par.

He failed to time his tackles well and misplaced some of his passes in the game. He made some of the fans miss the presence of Benjamin Tanimu and Calvin Bassey.

Finidi expresses AFCON title desire

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigeria's interim coach, Finidi George, expressed his desire to emulate the late Stephen Keshi, who won the Africa Cup of Nations as a player and coach.

George and Keshi won the 1994 AFCON together as players. The interim coach says he wants to emulate the Nigerian icon.
