Manchester United recorded one of their biggest wins in the Erik ten Hag era as they dumped Liverpool out of the FA Cup on March 17.

The two teams engaged in a thrilling 4-3 match at Old Trafford, ultimately decided by an extra-time stoppage-time winner from Amad Diallo.

The hosts were the first ones off the block, with Scott McTominay opening the scoring inside 10 minutes. Liverpool wrestled their way back into the game with two quickfire goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah just before half-time.

It took an 87th-minute strike from Antony to force the game into extra time. Harvey Elliot got Liverpool's third of the day, but further goals from Marcus Rashford and Diallo saw Jurgen Klopp's quadruple charge come to a crashing end.

After the final whistle, a Manchester United fan recorded himself celebrating right in front of Salah as the away side disembarked from the raised Old Trafford substitute area.

The Egyptian winger lasted 77 minutes of the contest, with Cody Gakpo taking his place. Despite the defeat, he became the first player to score in five consecutive away matches at Old Trafford.

The two teams will regroup after the international break with different agendas. Klopp is chasing the Premier League title against Arsenal and Manchester City, while ten Hag will be hoping to usurp one of Aston Villa or Tottenham Hotspur for the fifth position on the log, which could guarantee Champions League football next season.

Why players get sent off for taking shirts off

Sports Brief has also explained why players get booked for taking their shirts off following Diallo's sending-off.

Diallo scored the late winner to send Manchester United to the FA Cup semifinals but was sent off after that for a second bookable offence.

The Ivorian had earlier been booked for delaying restart of play.
