  • Napoli has been advised to sign Joshua Zirkzee in the summer window
  • The Bologna striker is seen as an ideal replacement for Victor Osimhen
  • Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli at the end of the 2023/24 season

Joshua Zirkzee has been named as the perfect candidate to replace Victor Osimhen at Napoli, should the striker leave the reigning Italian champions at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old Nigerian forward is presently on the shopping list of Europe’s elite clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, and is highly favoured to leave the reigning Italian champions.

According to Soccernet, former AS Roma star, Davide Bombardini, has urged Napoli to sign Zirkzee when Osimhen is finally sold at the end of the season.

"Zirkzee is a player worth certain amounts. Now, I don’t know if 40 or 50 million will be enough to sign him, but next summer, the transfer market will tell us.
"When I saw him at the start, he was only missing a goal, and in my opinion, he can become Osimhen’s replacement. He is a player with a future; an investment [that] can still grow a lot."

Zirkzee has been Bologna’s star player this season, netting 11 goals in all competitions for Thiago Motta’s team as they push for a UEFA Champions League spot in Serie A.

AC Milan enter race to sign Zirkzee

Meanwhile, AC Milan is the latest club to be linked with a move for Zirkzee as the Dutch youngster continues to be courted by Italy’s biggest clubs after an impressive season, Sempre Milan reports.

The Rossonieri have joined Premier League giants, Tottenham Hotspur, and Napoli as being strongly linked with a move for the 22-year-old Bologna forward when the summer transfer window opens.

AC Milan are searching for a young number nine to replace the ageing Oliver Giroud and Zirkzee has been identified as the best bet to fill the position next season.

Zirkzee gets first Netherlands invite

Earlier, Sports Brief reported the Netherlands have called up Zirkzee to the senior team shortly after discussing the potential circumstances under which he could represent Nigeria.

The 22-year-old was included in the Netherlands’ provisional squad of 30 players for the friendly matches against Scotland and Germany during the international break this month.

Zirkzee, whose mother is Nigerian and father is Dutch, recently spoke about the possibility of playing for the Super Eagles in an interview but that possibility seems to have ended.
