  • Bright Osayi-Samuel and his Fenerbahce teammates defended themselves against Trabzonspor fans
  • The league clash between both teams degenerated into a brawl following a win for the visiting team
  • Police have detained one of the fans who allegedly stormed the pitch to confront the opposing side

The father of a Trabzonspor fan, who is in police custody, has blamed Nigeria's Bright Osayi-Samuel and his Fenerbahce teammates for his son's ordeal.

Drama ensued shortly after Fenerbahce defeated Trabzonspor in a Turkish Super Lig clash at the Papara Park Stadium on Sunday night, March 17.

Michy Batshuayi netted the winner with three minutes left on the clock, leaving the atmosphere tense as the visitors claimed a 3-2 victory.

Disgraceful scenes were then witnessed in the aftermath as several Trabzonspor supporters invaded the pitch, Gazette Pencere reports.

They were confronted by Fenerbahce players, who defended themselves against the alleged attack with their fists. Osayi-Samuel, in particular, was captured punching a fan as the situation degenerated into a free-for-all.

Security operatives rushed onto the field and had to protect the visiting team as they headed toward the tunnel.

Police officers have since launched an investigation and a fan has been detained, leaving his father fuming.

The dad, Ismet Taskin, said:

"My son was arrested to please Fenerbahçe fans. If the players who punched and kicked these children on the field will not be punished, they should not let this country suffer."

Bright Osayi-Samuel faces lengthy ban

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Osayi-Samuel could be banned for 10 games after assaulting a Trabzonspor fan in Fenerbahce's last match in the Turkish League.

The home supporters invaded the pitch, with the Nigerian defender taking matters into his own hands after he had an altercation with a fan who allegedly tried to attack him with a knife.

The star, who impressed at the recently concluded AFCON 2023, could get further punishment for his act and be referred to the Turkish Football Federation Disciplinary Committee.

Article 44 of the Turkish football body's regulations suggests the defender could be banned from football for three months or a year if Osayi-Samuel is sanctioned for his self-defence.
