  • Napoli are reportedly planning for the imminent departure of Victor Osimhen
  • The Nigerian forward has been linked with a transfer to several elite clubs
  • A list of three top players poised to replace the marquee forward has surfaced

Napoli seems resigned to the likelihood that Victor Osimhen will not see out the remainder of his contract with the Serie A club.

The Partonopei, who recently handed the Nigerian forward a mega contract until the summer of 2026, appears to be making plans for a potential departure of their number nine.

Reports of Osimhen attracting interest from the English Premier League as well as the French Ligue 1 have heralded the European transfer scenes lately, and Aurelio De Laurentis and the Napoli hierarchy are ensuring they can make the most of what is gradually looking like an inevitable sale of the talismanic forward.

A flurry of forwards have been linked with Napoli, and according to a recent report from Tutto Mercato, the reigning Italian league champions have identified three strikers as leading contenders to fill Osimhen's shoes. In this piece, Sports Brief delves into these reported candidates primed to step in for Osimhen.

Forwards set to replace Osimhen

Jonathan David

The Canadian forward has been in sensational form since the beginning of the 2023-24 season. According to data from Fotmob, he has contributed to 27 goals in 37 appearances this campaign for Lille.

Napoli is expected to pay around €50 million for the 24-year-old, a significantly lower fee compared to the reported €130mil asking price for Osimhen. Signing David appears to be a prudent financial move for Napoli, aligning with their recent efforts to be more financially astute.

Joshua Zirkzee

The Bologna forward is among the candidates being considered as a replacement for Osimhen at Napoli.

The 22-year-old has been nothing short of a revelation under the guidance of coach, Thiago Motta.

The former Bayern Munich forward has been involved in 16 goals in his 30 appearances so far and is expected to command a transfer fee in the region of €40mil.

Santiago Gimenez

The 22-year-old completes the list of potential replacements for Osimhen at the Stadio Diego Maradona.

According to data from Fotmob, the Feyenoord striker has been involved in 29 goals in his 35 club appearances this campaign.

The Mexican possesses an enviable goal-scoring talent that many top clubs covet, making it little surprise that he is on Napoli’s radar. The versatile forward appears poised to depart the Eredivisie at the end of the season.

However, it has to be noted that while a departure for Osimhen from Napoli becomes certain with the passing of the day, it has to be stated that a destination for the forward remains shrouded in uncertainty.

Arsenal icon advises Osimhen

Sports Brief in another report stated that Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry, has reportedly advised Osimhen to avoid a particular Premier League club.

The Nigerian forward seems set to depart Napoli in the upcoming summer transfer window, with several top clubs, such as Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, competing for the opportunity to sign the influential striker.
