  • Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of Nigeria's forthcoming friendlies against Ghana and Mali
  • The impressive Napoli striker is yet to recuperate from an inflamed scar he suffered recently
  • He was an unused substitute in Napoli's 1-1 draw with Serie A leaders Inter Milan on Sunday

Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, will not be available when the Super Eagles of Nigeria engage in friendly matches later this month.

The Nigeria Football Federation has lined up two friendlies for the national team ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria will take on the Black Stars of Ghana inside Grand de Stade, Marrakech, Morocco on Friday, March 22.

Four days later, the three-time African champions will battle the Eagles of Mali at the same venue.

Cyriel Dessers, Jamilu Collins, Nathan Tella, Stanley Nwabali, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Fisayo Bashiru Semi Ajayi, and Nruno Onyemaechi are the ten players in camp as of the time of filing this report.

Complete Sports reports that Victor Osimhen will not be part of the matches as the 25-year-old was an unused substitute in Napoli’s 1-1 draw against Serie A leaders Inter Milan on Sunday.

It was gathered that the forward barely trained in the last few days due to an inflammation of the scar from an old injury.

Napoli's caretaker coach, Francesco Carlzona, confirmed that the striker is yet to fully recover.

Osimhen will remain at the Castel Volturno where he will be monitored for at least two weeks to regain his full fitness.

The friendlies serve as preparatory games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which return in the coming months, with Nigeria taking on Bafana Bafana on June 3.

Arsenal, PSG lead race for Osimhen

Sports Brief earlier reported that Chelsea's hopes of securing Osimhen's signature this summer took a hit, with both Arsenal and PSG emerging as frontrunners in the race for the coveted Napoli forward.

Osimhen is on the brink of a move away from Serie A champions Napoli, with several top clubs vying for his services.

The striker's representatives have exerted extensive efforts to assess the best options for his future once the current season concludes.
