  • Thomas Partey will miss Ghana's friendly against Nigeria on Friday
  • Partey will be joined by Joseph Painstil and Inaki Williams as absentees
  • The Black Stars will also play the Cranes of Uganda next week in Morocco

The Ghana Football Association has explained the reasons for the absence of three key players ahead of the friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda in March's international break.

New coach Otto Addo named a 26-man squad without Arsenal's Thomas Partey, in-form forward Inaki Williams and LA Galaxy winger Joseph Painstil.

Although all three players are fit, Partey and Williams asked to be excused from the games while Painstil stayed behind to sort out immigration issues following his move to the United States, as reported by the Ghana FA.

The FA in a statement wrote:

Joseph Painstil: As a result of his move to the United States, there are some further immigration documentation procedures he must embark upon which is why he is unable to travel outside the United States until the process is completed.

Thomas Partey: Asked to be excused from the game to gain full fitness following recent injuries.

Inaki Williams: Pulled out of the games to have some rest and fully recover from recent injury setbacks.

Meanwhile, there have been late call-ups to youngster Ebenezer Annan of Novi Pozar and Red Bull Salzburg's youngster Amankwah Forson, as reported by Ghana Soccernet.

The Black Stars will face Nigeria on Friday before engaging the Cranes of Uganda four days later in Marrakech, Morocco as part of preparations ahead of June's World Cup qualifiers.

Coach Addo and his new technical team consisting of ex-players John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda as well as German-trained tactician Joseph Laumann.

The Ghana FA sacked Chris Hughton after the Black Stars' disastrous 2023 Africa Cup of Nations early this year.

Williams dropped for Ghana friendlies

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Athletic Bilbao star, Inaki Williams has been dropped for the international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda in March.

Despite being fully fit, the striker could not make Otto Addo's 26-man squad for the games to be played in Morocco next week.

Williams has been in red-hot form for the Rojiblancos, leading them to the final of the Copa del Rey.
