2024 FA Cup Semi-finalists

Coventry City

It wasn't a complete surprise to see Coventry City enter their quarter-final match on Saturday as the underdogs. Their opponent in the FA Cup was Premier League side Wolves, a team that is currently ranked ninth in the English top flight.

That didn't deter them from recording a major shock in the quarters. Ellis Simms gave Coventry a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute to send their fans into a frenzy.

Wolves battled back, however, scoring two late goals to turn a 0-1 deficit into a 2-1 advantage. Rayan Ait-Nouri equalised in the 83rd minute before Hugo Bueno gave Wolves the lead in the 88th minute.

Just when it seemed Coventry's FA Cup dream was over, their players responded and produced a comeback for the ages in injury time.

Simms scored his second goal of the game in the seventh minute of stoppage time to tie the match at 2-2. Haji Wright then cemented his status as a Coventry legend, scoring the match-winner in the tenth minute of stoppage time.

With the dramatic victory, Coventry reached the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1987, per The Guardian.

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola's men remained on course to defend their FA Cup title, beating Newcastle United 2-0 in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Bernardo Silva starred for City in the win, netting a brace in the first half, per the BBC. He opened the scoring in the 13th minute and added another goal in the 31st minute to seal another semis spot for City.

Quarter-final matches on Sunday

Two more teams will join Coventry City and Manchester City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Manchester United will face Liverpool in a blockbuster quarter-final clash at Old Trafford, while Chelsea will host Leicester City in the last 8.

Manchester United and Liverpool's FA Cup trophies

Sports Brief recently reported on Manchester United and Liverpool's past success in the FA Cup.

The Red Devils have won the tournament a dozen times, with their last championship coming in 2016.

The Reds have won the FA Cup eight times, with their last title coming in 2022.
